Interview with Sowa

Interview with Sowa

Sowa
Hey Guys earlier today we got to catch up with Abuja’s very own Sowa and had a chance to interview him. The interview was fun!!!! #YouDontEvenKnow Check it out!!!!!

  • Whats Your Real Name
My real name is Oluwasowapo Alonge. That was too long to say so I shortened it to Sowapo and later on people just started calling me Sowa guess the other one was still too long ðŸ˜‚😂😂
  • So where were you born and raised?
I was born in Lagos but I was proudly raised in The Federal Capital
  • When is your birthday?
I’m a February baby born February 24th 1996
  • What University do you attend and what do you study?
I currently attend Baze university and I’m studying business Management
  • At what time in your life did you realize you want to start making music?
When I realized was about a year and a half ago. I was schooling in the US and I had this time of deep reflection and thinking. A lot came from that time. I got a lot of clarity and direction. It made me make a lot of big changes like leaving the team I was with at the time(VMI). We were just not on the same wavelength. Before that time I was doing music because it was something I liked doing and I was really good at it. But I was never serious about it. That’s when I truly took it serious and my sound and everything changed.
  • In regards to music what instruments do you play?
I’m a drummer and for that reason even when I’m rapping or coming up with beats in my head it’s all centered around the drums.
  • Do your parents know and support the fact that you do music?
My parents have been the biggest support in me starting music although they are more about gospel music and for that reason they do not fully support my music like many other parents do. But all my equipment and stuff is thanks to them.
  • Tell us your experience in a studio the first time you wanted to record?
The first time I wanted to record was quite funny. I had started freestyling and rapping in my school and i had gotten popular for it but I had never reasoned recording it. My dad was into music so the whole time there was a studio in my house but it never registered. Until one day my dads former assistant who happened to be an A1 producer was messing around in the studio and I walked in and started vibing. He was like wow that’s mad we should record it and the rest was history.
  • Which musicians do you look up to in the music industry both locally and internationally?
Locally I respect Olamide for his work ethic, Burna boy for his creativity and versatility and the way he can switch flows so effortlessly. Wizkid is one of my fav naija artists I just love him. Falz is another guy I just love. M.I has also been one of my biggest inspirations While Internationally I look up to so many artists. But especially guys like J. Cole, Drake, Jon Bellion, Tory Lanez and chance the rapper.
  • Tell us about your first performance and where?
My first performance was in my church when I was in jss3 I think and the feedback was mad. I just knew I loved performing.
  • Tell us more your about #RoadToBalmain Mixtape?
Well my mixtape #RoadToBalmain is my first. I had been working on it since last Summer. I really did it like it was an album. Had a while selection process and everything for each track. It basically my first step to becoming a superstar, such by God’s grace I will become; Hence the title. If you have heard the track Balmain of my tape you would see that i was talking about how celebrities sort of create the trends and so road to Balmain is basically my road to becoming that icon that trend setter and the feedback has been incredible so far it’s just to get more people on the wave.
  • Asides music what other hobbies do you have?
Well I’m an artistic person so I dance, act, draw, model once in a while, drum and workout.
  • If you were approached by an upcoming artiste and he wants to work with you on a track what would be your response?
I’m not the type to charge someone to be on their track. If I like the track then it would be my pleasure to jump on it. But fact is there are a lot of wack artists trying music out and most times those are the ones that approach u. So I always ask them to send me the beat and their concept to see if I like it.
  • What is your take on the music being produced in Abuja?
The Abuja music industry is so overlooked it’s crazy. But the amount of amazing work that is coming out of this City is incredible. By the time the rest of the country tunes into it there will be no stopping us. Abuja is growing to be naija’s hip hop capital. That’s why I started #TheCapitalMovement. Because the people overlooking it the most are the natives of this City. It’s not their fault either. When the youth started making music and other youth saw that it was making them popular a lot of whack artists decided they wanted to make music too. With the amount of bad music that came out in the early stages people just stopped listening. But we are changing that trend #TCM
  • What advice do you have for upcoming Artistes out there?
My advice for upcoming artists is make sure u r doing music because u r passionate about it and not for the wrong reason. If it is what u love then don’t give up and keep pushing u will be heard.
  • Thanks a lot for your time Sowa!!!
No Problem Guys
There you have it guys interesting facts about Sowa check back on us next time for more interesting interviews with interesting people. Later Guys!!!!!!!!! #TCM
