Interview with Lady Donli

Hey guys on Boxing Day today, we got the chance to interview Abuja’s very own Singer and Songwriter Lady Donli. If her name doesn't ring a bell you should remember the track Mr Creeper. Yup she's the own who has that song with Tay!!! Check out the interview below!!!!!!!

• What's your full name?

 Zainab Elizabeth Donli.

•   Where were you born and raised?      

   I was born in Cleveland, Ohio USA but Raised mostly in Abuja.

• When is your birthday?

 20th September 1996.

•  What University do you attend and what do you study?

 University of SURREY, Studying Law (final year).

•  At what time in your life did you realize that you want to start making music?

I've always known I wanted to make music. Been writing poetry and rhyming since I was about 4. So music came naturally to me. And it was always a dream of mine to pursue it someday.

•  In regards to music what musical instruments do you play?

 I play the congas.. and I'm trying to learn the guitar.

•  Tell us about your experience in the studio the first time you wanted to record?

 First song I ever recorded was a music jingle for O Noodles when I was about 11 I think. It was exciting, finally getting in the music booth. After that, I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I mean I didn't necessarily want to sing, I just wanted to make music at whatever capacity I could.

•  Do your parents know and support the fact that you do music?

 Yeah my parents know I do music, and they're petty supportive. They'd just prefer if I did it when I was done with university lol.. but they're emotionally always there for me regardless.

•  Which musicians do you look up to in the music industry both local and international?

 Hmm in the local industry I have a lot of respect for Bez and ASA. Internationally I have a lot of musical idols, Erykah Badu, Sade, Andre 3000, Chance The Rapper, Little Simz, Kendrick Lamar.

•  Tell us about your first performance and where?

 Cant remember my actual first performance. I've been performing at different places for a while. Secondary school talent shows. Inter school competitions. So I can't really remember.

•   Tell us more about your Wallflower EP?

 Wallflower was a personal project. I wanted to explore and express a different side of me. I also wanted to be more experimental with my music style, different genres. To be honest I just wanted to have more fun with the music and produce more fun music.

•   If you were approached by an upcoming artiste and he/she wants to work with you on a track what would be your response?

 Depends on if I like the artistes music and if I think we can make vibes together . I'm still upcoming so.. It's all about the vibes.

•   What is your take on the music being produced in Abuja?

 Music coming out of Abuja is good. Well, some of it is good. We can always do better. I really enjoy what Physco is doing right now. Efe Oraka as well is an amazing vocalist. There's a lot of promising talent there.

•  Asides music what other hobbies do you have?

I like reading, Taking pictures, Making videos, Things of the sort.

•  What advice do you have for upcoming Artistes out there?

I'm upcoming, so I haven't figured out much myself . Only thing I'd advice people is to keep believing on themselves cause the music industry will put you down a lot of times . Believe in yourself and always aspire to be better.
